Tickled

It doesn't take much these days to get me tickled! Mary-Kate brings so much laughter into our house.

They said to trace the feet. She thought it needed a head.
A Sample of Work she did this week!

This week in review

MK with Papa

MK with Nana
MK with me

We made it through the first full week of school. Not sure how. My in-laws went to Chicago this week to visit family and friends. They stopped by to see us on Monday! I can't wait for them to come home.

MK loves school. She can't wait to go every morning. She has learned to say the Pledge of Allegiance. She stops after the phrase "United States of America." I asked her why she stopped. She said she doesn't like republics. Oh I thought that was so f u n n y!

I had two Open Houses to attend this week. I was at school until 8PM two nights in a row. On Wednesday, my nephew Josh called me at noon to ask if MK could attend a birthday party for a friend's daughter that night at 6PM. No big deal. Another 8PM night. On Thursday we stayed home. I know we are not supposed to covet. Yet, I coveted being home Thursday night. I had to catch us up on laundry and clean house. I was so glad when Friday rolled around.

Maybe this week will be calm and not much happening. Unfortunately when school starts, the madness starts.

MK has her first ballet and tap class this week. I can't wait to see it.

These are some pictures that I took of Mary-Kate before church. I am so glad she will let me put bows in. As soon as church was over, they came right out! Ha!

New School Year

Everything is so different about this school year! It was the smoothest start to a year for me. The kids are so sweet. It was so difficult for them changing classes and getting lockers. They were so afraid of being late for class. I had cross walk duty and it went fine. I am really short. Some of the trucks that the Daddy's have are taller than me. So I really have to hold up my stop sign for them to stop for me to take kids across. We had 11 new faculty members including a new vice principal. He is young, but he is already off to a great start. Some of our teachers wondered how he would do being so young. I told them that I was a baby when I started teaching (21) and that I am so glad someone took a chance on me (32 now). We should give him that same chance. (That shut them up.)

Mary-Kate had a great first week. She was so happy to go to school. She hasn't given me too many problems. (ie. not liking her outfits or not eating breakfast.) She hasn't wanted to come home when I pick her up. She is having too much fun. From her work sheets I can tell they are starting right in with learning.

I have two open houses to attend on Monday and Tuesday nights. One night is for six grade and one night for seventh grade. (Each grade level has over 400 students, so for parking purposes we do this in two nights.)

I am so excited the library was painted a khaki color. (It was stark white. If it had been repainted without my say, it would have been painted industrial gray. No thanks. I asked the principal if I could have the library painted the same color as the office. He agreed. So thankful.) The teacher who taught me to sew a little this summer is making the curtains for the library. I have seven windows to cover. I am thrilled she will do this for me. I think it will be nice and homey in there. It is a huge space and the color really does help make it welcoming.

P.S. I have another MK story. Back in May, my friend Darla and her husband Robert and their daughter Tori, invited us to the circus. I should have looked into this circus. Kids got in free. I didn't know how much it would cost. MK told us on the way to the circus she wanted to ride an elephant. We waited in line for a ticket. I almost feel over when they said $15 a piece to enter the circus. Oh how I wanted to turn around and not go. Well, MK saw our friends in the stands and we paid and climbed the dangerous bleachers to get to them. My friend was 8 months pregnant. I figured if she could climb them so could I. I don't know how she got up there. Mary-Kate thought it was the best thing she ever saw. It was so hot outside. Well at intermission they allowed you to ride an elephant. I want MK to have experiences so, we waited in line to ride the elephant. When we finally got up there, they said her ticket would cost $5 and mine would cost $7 unless she could ride by herself. Well, she wasn't riding by herself. I thought, this is unbelievable. I saw her big brown eyes and how she wanted to ride that elephant so I paid the man. I was a sucker. We climbed onto the elephant. MK had the time of her life. She waved to the crowd and said, "Look at me Mommy." She was so proud of herself. This is the only good picture we have and I am glad Thara got it. Our camera wasn't working very well.
NO MORE SMALL TOWN CIRCUSES FOR US

I hope you all had a great week and will have a wonderful weekend. It is gorgeous here....

Back to School Ideas

Featured in Family Fun Magazine. Click here for more ideas...

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:

Cheese sticks
1/2-inch-thick slices of bologna
Mustard
Bugles corn snacks
Raisins
1. For each pencil, cut off one end of a cheese stick so that it's flat. Use a paring knife or apple corer to cut a 3/4-inch circle out of the bologna.
2. Dab one end of the circle into the mustard, then attach it to the flat end of the cheese stick.
3. Snap off the end of a Bugle so that its edges are even, and gently press it onto the other end of the cheese stick. Slide half a raisin onto the Bugle for the pencil tip, and you've got a snack that's just write!

CRAFT MATERIALS:

SANDWICH BOX:
1-gallon milk jug
Marker
Scissors
Thumbtack
Adhesive-backed Velcro dot

Sayings

1st Day of Preschool

Mary-Kate is really getting hysterical with what she tells me.

Here is a conversation/interview that I had with her

ME: What does Daddy do at work?

MARY-KATE: He packs up things and sends it

ME: What does Mommy do at work?

MARY-KATE: I don't think anything. Don't you play?
(Nice, even kids don't think librarians are important.)

ME: What is your favorite color?

MARY-KATE: YELLOW

ME: What are you taking for toy day at school?

MARY-KATE: A dump truck

ME: WHY? (I am thinking about all of the toys she has and why on earth she would take a dump truck.)

MARY-KATE: I need to haul rocks for Miss Sandy on the playground and no one else is old enough to drive. (Last time I checked they were all 3.)

ME: What is your favorite animal?

MARY-KATE: snakes, Mom.

The funniest thing happened a couple of weeks ago. She had her first dentist appointment. Dr B's office is really nice. She was really into the decor. It had a pirate ship theme and you go "drive" a boat. They have a wooden boat that kids can get in and steer. She was called back. She visited with the ladies in the back. It was explained what the doctor was doing to do. Everything was good until the dentist came in. He introduced himself. He even explained that he was a Daddy too. He told her that his daughters were Ellie and Ava that she goes to school with. Mary-Kate said, "I don't like Daddys. " He had put on the gloves at this point... " And I really don't like Daddy's who put fingers in little girls' mouths." Oh how I wanted to disappear. The dentist got so tickled. MK was serious! He checked her mouth. She did her fair share of screaming. He said she wasn't the worst. That made me feel better, I think. Anyway she goes back in Jan.

I will survive

Mary-Kate is only 3

Mary-Kate and I before her friend's birthday party today!

We had professional development meetings all last week. To say that I was exhausted is an understatement. We have 11 new faculty members!!! We have a new assistant principal. It should be a very interesting year. I have two days next week of professional developments and then school starts on Wednesday. I am not ready yet, but I will be.

Mary-Kate on the other hand is very excited to be moving up to the big kid class at her daycare and preschool. It is very hard on me. She is growing up right before my eyes and it is happening fast. They gave me a calendar on Friday and I am overwhelmed. She will start in the new class Monday. They take the kids every week to gymnastics. I couldn't be happier about that. I don't think I have an Olympian, but MK really does like the obstacle courses. Forward rolls, not so much. The rates are cheaper going with her school than when I take her. They also take them skating every other week. I wanted to enroll her in dancing this year. The girl's social calendar is full. Here's where I have the trouble. My parents, my in-laws, and my friend Stephanie are the only ones besides my hubby and me who have driven her around. I am nervous about her going on a school van to activities. God will be there to watch out for her. I know she will have fun and be okay. It is just I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE IS OLD ENOUGH TO DO THIS.
I digress.

We are grilling hamburgers tonight, enjoying the last weekend before school starts.
I hope everyone is having a fun weekend!

All of these are pictures of things that I just recently bought on ETSY. They are too cute!

I love this shirt! I got one for Mary-Kate. I think I need one too!

I am in love with the pillowcase dresses. I love the bright colors.

I haven't gotten this bag in the mail yet. The maker of this has another bag with a "BOO" on it for trick or treating. If my hog bag is cute, I'm going back for "BOO."

I enjoy October, but not really big on Halloween, but come on, the bag is cute....

School is going well. We have been in professional development meetings. I have to teach a class tomorrow on Organizing for Success. On Friday, I am teaching another class on Arkansas Comprehensive School Improvement Plans. It will be an interesting couple of days. You never know what they will ask librarians to do!

I have found ETSY and I love it! Thanks Laura for posting about it awhile back. This is a pillowcase dress.

Back to Work

I am back to work. It is nice to get back into a routine. I have so much to do before school starts. I have 800 kids to enter into 3 different software applications. I have new books to process. With my job, everyday is different, and there is always something to do. And you just thought librarians were boring....just kidding.

On Monday afternoon, some cousins from Northwest Arkansas came to visit. I was so excited. I had to work that day, so they were so gracious to wait for me to get off work and spend time with me before heading back. Thanks, Donna, Angela and Shawn for coming to visit!

Here are some pictures of our children.
