25 Random Facts

I am not on Face book, but I have seen 25 random facts on blogs before and thought I would try it. Here goes.
1. I am the baby in my family. I am my mom's only child and my dad's 4Th child.
2. My mom and dad are 13 years apart in age.
3. My daughter is named for my grandmother Mary Kathryn.
4. My husband and I are small business owners in Conway.
5. This is my 11 year as an educator. I have taught 1st and 4Th grades. I have been a middle school library media specialist for the passed 5 years.
6. I have a Master's degree in Instructional Technology.
7. I love diet cokes from Sonic.
8. I love to read. Guess that is good for librarians.
9. I received a certificate my senior year in high school for never missing a day of school from K-12 grades. I am the poster child for the saying, "You miss school, you miss out." I thought this was so true so I didn't miss. LOL
10. I grew up on a farm. (Have ridden on a bull calf before not by choice. Anybody have older brothers. Enough said.)
11. I learned to drive a farm truck at 10 years old in the pasture.
12. I used to coon hunt with my dad.
13. In June I will have my 6Th wedding anniversary. I married the most wonderful guy in the world.
14. I was an aunt at 5 years old and a great aunt at 31 years old.
15. My siblings love me even if we have different moms. Their ages are 51, 49, and 40. I will be 32 in Feb.
16. My 40 year old brother died this year and it broke my heart.
17. I became a Christian when I was 13. I have attended that same country Church of Christ church since I was 5 years old.
18. I was hit by a car when I was 11 years old in front of Plaza Towers in LR.
19. Had my tonsils removed when I was 21. Don't recommend that.
20. Love being a mom to a princess.
21. Hope to have more children.
22. Was placed on a months bed rest for high blood pressure during my pregnancy. Had a c-section.
23. Love to travel. I have been to Alaska, Thailand, and Italy. I have traveled mostly to southern states in the US.
24. I wear contacts mostly.
25. Love to drink coffee.

I just love this picture of MK when she was 5 weeks old. She looked so serious.

Dukes of Hazzard

I think I need to explain the music I have chosen for my playlist. These songs are not what I listen to on the radio! :-) I have chosen songs that I have a specific memory about. I had a very unique opportunity when I was little. My grandmother, Granny Mary and my great grandmother (Granny Mary's mother), Granny Lucy moved back in together after their spouses died. I called my Granny Lucy, "DeeDee". My family wasn't sure why, but instead of correcting me, they just went along with it. These Grannies spoiled me rotten. Starting at age two I spent every Friday night with them. And guess what we watched on tv together? The Dukes of Hazzard. I loved Bo Duke at a very young age. The Grannies loved watching me watch this show. Evidently I really got into it. They also made me homemade macaroni and cheese. Oh it was so good! Every Saturday morning they would take me to the hospitals in Little Rock to see the babies in the nursery. I have wonderful memories of these Grannies. My Granny DeeDee passed away when I was 5. My Granny Mary died when I was 13. I am so blessed to have had them in my life even if it was for a short time.

My daughter is so blessed because she has both sets of grandparents who are crazy about her!

My Daddy

Dad is so much better! Thank you for praying. He has made a tremendous turn around. He walked some today. He was alert and talking all day. He definitely looked like he was back to his old self. He even sat in a recliner today. Praise the Lord. He will have a different room in the hospital tomorrow. No more intensive care. Yeah!

Prayer

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. (Colossians 1:15-16)

Prayer needed for My Dad

My dad is in intensive care at a local hospital. He is not doing very well at all. He has diabetes. He has high blood pressure. We just found out that he not only has Sleep Apnea, but also Parkinson's Plus. He is a prostate cancer and bladder cancer survior so I know he can make it through this. He is so tough. Please pray for our family. Thanks.

Baby Harper update

The baby is in Tulsa. Our Arkansas Children's Hospital was too full last night. She is getting great care. Keep praying please.

Baby Harper

Please pray for Kelly and Scott Stamps. They are a wonderful, godly couple who live in Fayetteville, AR. They welcomed the birth of their daughter tonight (9lbs and 12oz.) and something has happened. Their daughter, Harper, cannot breathe well. She has pneumonia. She is being flown to AR Children's Hospital. The doctors have reported that the outcome is not favorable. Please pray for this little family. God is the Great Physician. They need a healing. Please check out her blog at

Missing My Brother

My brother celebrated his 40th birthday on July 21, 2008. His wife had a huge birthday party for him. My husband, daughter, and I attended. One week later he was killed in a traffic accident. He was a police officer in Fort Worth. Because of gas prices he started driving his motorcycle to work. He was driving home from work when a car turned (didn't yield)right in front of him. He was hurt very badly, but the doctors thought they could "fix" him. He died. I can't believe it still. It is still too raw for me. He has a son aged 22 who was leaving for Iraq with the National Guard when the accident occurred. He has a 14 year old daughter and a daughter who just turned one. To say we were sick about this is an understatement. God pulled us through this. I am so glad that my entire family is faithful to the Lord. I don't know how people get through tragedies without Him. I miss my brother everyday. Somehow we have to learn to live with this hole in our hearts. We won't ever get over the loss. The above picture is of my brother meeting my daughter for the first time.

Heirlooms

I have a funny story about heirlooms. My mom has many antiques. Some of which have been passed down through generations. Even if there is something that you don't like, you still have to take it because it is an "heirloom." At least this is the running joke in our family. When I graduated college and moved out on my own, my mom gave me my first "heirloom". It was pictures that had been hanging in my great grandmother's kitchen. They were just pictures of fruit. The borders of the frames had been nailed into place. Old frames okay. Did I mention they were bright orange. Oh my! The first thing I wanted to do was get a new frame for them. Because the frames were so old and nailed together, I was afraid that I couldn't get the picture out without ripping the pictures. So I took them to a local frame shop. The owner of the shop helped me pick out the new custom frames. The pictures weren't a standard size. I thought this would be a nice addition to my kitchen. A week passed. The owner called and told me I could come by and pick up my pictures. She told the price. Around $70 total. I thought what a small price to pay for heirlooms. She showed me the pictures. The frames were great, but the pictures looked different. She said, "I wasn't sure what side you wanted me to use. I hope you like them." What side to use, what could she mean? These were heirlooms. I found out later that they were calendars that my great grandmother had cut out of a magazine and put into picture frames. I was deflated a little because of how much I paid for calendar pictures. I guess these will be heirlooms for my little girl, too. They will follow me to each kitchen I ever have.

Rough Week

This has been a rough week. My daughter has had a cold. She hasn't wanted to sleep or eat much! Can you say, "Cranky."

Also, my dad hasn't felt well. To add to that he had a sleep study over the weekend. Today the sleep clinic called and told my mom that he has Sleep Apnea. He stopped breathing 11 times. That is unreal. So they are testing him again next week with oxygen. I am thrilled. Maybe this is the answer to why he feels so awful all of the time.

This picture made my day! My daughter is 2 1/2. She got this easel for Christmas. She loves to draw. She said she was drawing a picture of her family. I wonder which one I am? I think I am the one with the M for a nose. We are working on the letter M and teaching her to write it. Maybe I am M for Mommy:-)

Christmas 2008

My little one has changed so much! She really loved Christmas this year. She seemed to understand more about it. She was scared to see Santa last year. This year she was excited. We took her to see Santa. She marched up there and told Santa what she wanted for Christmas. Santa said, "Would you like to sit in my lap for a picture." MK said, "No thank you." Too funny. She's only 2 1/2. Santa is for fun at our house, but we also talked to her about the real reason for the season. She enjoyed singing happy birthday to Jesus! School starts Monday! No break for this teacher until spring break. I also posted a sweet picture of my dad!

New to Blogging

I am new to the blogging world. I have been an avid reader of blogs, but haven't attempted to create my own until now. My blog is named Day to Day. I recently lost my brother. He died in a traffic accident in Texas just a week after he turned 40. I am dealing with this loss day to day. I hope you will enjoy reading this blog. It is an attempt to keep in touch with family and friends all over the US.
